Alexandre Berthier (1975) is a multimedia artist working in collaboration with Karl-Otto von Oertzen under the name the Marswalkers. They developed several projects including video and/or sound based installations, photography, films, sound and/or network based performances, as well as social projects using telesharing tools to connect different communities in the world.

September 2002 - March 2003, invited artist in the project E-GALAB, creation of a virtual collaborative 3D space for artists on the web; part of the European Commission Culture 2000, with the participation of CIANT (international centre of art and new technologies) in Prague, CYPRES (intercultural centre for practice, research and interdisciplinary exchanges) in Marseille, and MIDE (museo internacional d’electrografia) in Cuenca.

November 2002, director of a video-clip for the French band Ali Dragon, in collaboration with Karl-Otto von Oertzen.

March-June 2002, invited artist to work on the experimentation of performances on the web, through high bandwidth connection, for the Research Centre of the Wimbledon School of Art directed by William Furlong; in collaboration with karl-Otto von Oertzen.

In September 2004, Courants d’Ere was shown at “Désert”, 6th International Exhibition of Video and Electronic Art, presented by Champ Libre in Montreal, Canada.

In August 2004, In Between was shown at “Without Borders”, Ayers Island Contemporary Arts Festival, Orono, Maine.
In March 2003, Courants d’Ere and Inutile,Necessaire were shown at “Plugged In Fest”, Maine Center For Contemporary Art, Rockport, Maine.

In October 2003, Inutile, Necessaire was shown at the gallery La Vitrine, Paris.

In April 2003, sound performance for the festival Avril.Exe at Confluences, Paris.

In February 2003, MIDE (museo internacional d’electrografia) in Spain bought 2 photography from the Time Stretch series.
In November 2002, OTTO was selected and shown at the European Short-Film Festival of Brest.

In October 2002, OTTO was shown at the Festival Des Jeunes Realisateurs at Accatone cinema in Paris, organized by the « Henri Langlois » association.

In Septembre 2002, London, Exchange Place and OTTO were shown at Funduns in kassel, Germany.

In June 2001, sound performance for Confluences, Paris.
In December 2001, Pas réel(s) and Appuie et puis? were shown at the 3rd Festival of Different Cinema, at La Clef in Paris.

In April 2001, collective exhibition “Petits Bouquins”, at the gallery l’Apocope in Marseille, presentation of a photographic book made in collaboration with Laure Bollinger.

In December 2000, collective exhibition “Picnic”, in the studio of the Tsé-Tsé designers, presentation of a performance/installation.

“Observing a behavior from the reality, filming it and then building/destroying this
material, in crescendo until the abstraction.”

“Taking the action of pushing on a switch, getting rid of the consequence and simply
keeping the gesture for what it represents, multiplying it and then inverting the logical
consequence’s order.”

“Inside spaces represented only by circles, a character is moving and seems to search for
something. We can’t figure his motivation: does he have a quest? Is he running away?
Is he influenced by the environment?”
